Reaction Steps in Heterogeneous Photocatalytic Oxidation of Toluene in Gas Phase—A Review

چکیده
A review of the current literature shows there is no clear consensus regarding reaction mechanisms air-borne aromatic compounds such as toluene by photocatalytic oxidation. Potential oxidation reactions over TiO2 or TiO2-based catalysts under ultraviolet and visible (UV/VIS) illumination are most commonly considered for removal these pollutants. Along pathways from a model pollutant, toluene, to final mineralization products (CO2 H2O), formation several intermediates via specific include parallel less-reactive on surface. The latter may occupy active adsorption sites causes drastic catalyst deactivation in some cases. Major hazardous gas-phase benzene formaldehyde, classified International Agency Research Cancer (IARC) Group 1 carcinogenic compounds. Adsorbed leading benzaldehyde, benzoic acid, cresols. three typical reviewed: methyl group oxidation, ring opening.

Photocatalytic Oxidation Processes for Toluene Oxidation over TiO2 Catalysts
Gas-solid heterogeneous photooxidation of toluene over TiO2 catalyst was studied to investigate the factors controlling the catalytic activities. The toluene photooxidation behavior on TiO2 was strongly affected by the formation and oxidation behavior of intermediate compounds on TiO2, and their accumulation decreased the reaction rate for toluene photooxidation. The formation and oxidation beh...

Photocatalytic oxidation makes use of light of appropriate frequency to activate a catalyst. In the presence of water on the surface of the catalyst, rates of some photocatalytic reactions are slowed. Microwaves are known for an ability to couple with water. Herein a photocatalytic reactor system was integrated with a waveguide allowing for concurrent application of microwaves and photocatalysi...

The resource intensive human activities (such as mining and extraction of mineral oils for betterment of life and modernization of society) have increased environmental pollution several folds. Products of mining and petrochemical industries are advantageous for the modern society. متن کاملThe Gas Phase Oxidation of Acetaldehyde Reaction Mechanism and Kinetics
The mechanism of the low temperature oxidation of gaseous acetaldehyde was investigated in the temperature range of 1 50-400?°C. The minor, intermediate and major products were identified and measured quantitatively by sampling directly into the ionization chamber of an MS10-C2 mass spectrometer from the reactor. The formation of H2O, CO, CO2, HCOOH, H2, HCHO, CH3COOH and CH3OH as the major pro...
